The Project

Steps of production in a country:.

  1. In each of the participating countries artists and craftsmen build a beautiful and big Treasure Chest. It is addressed to those who will live in the year 2050. This BIG TREASURE CHEST FOR FUTURE KIDS is the central symbol of the entire project. It represents the continuity among generations. Through the production process it will be charged with meaning (the kid’s Messages) like a battery is charged with electricity. It becomes a significant object of the cultural heritage.
  2. In each country the partner = co-producer makes it a project of his own. Global producer FAUST Film+Projekt, Berlin hands over all working materials and films to the co-producer. Based on this he organizes implementation in his country / his region.
  3. The project is introduced to schools, youth organisations and local groups. Children and young people are guided to understand it and to work with it. They find out what would be worthwhile to make it a Message addressed to those who will live in the year 2050. They express it using creative means. What is so important to me that I want to communicate it to those of the future? What should they be able to see, to read, to touch, to hear?
The Message can be in writing, images, sculpture, photograph, collage, it can also be an object with a special meaning.
Whatever they create, they have to write a few words explaining what they want to ‘say’ by their Message to coming generations.
  4. Teachers and educators get guidelines and materials from other countries (films, examples of Messages, images) so that the young people can be initiated to the project and visualize the meaning of Messages in other cultures.
  5. In each country he whole process is accompanied by publications in the press, in magazines, TV. The media get already existing materials from 15 countries. The project becomes a catalyst for a public dialogue about Youth and Future.
  6. It is substantial to document the ongoing project and its results. The children, their Messages are photographed digitally, their accompanying written material is scanned or copied. This documentation is the basis for publications, exhibitions and exchange.
  7. Professional filmmakers produce a film of 25 minutes.
  8. After local exhibitions during the production period finally a summarizing international exhibition is arranged. It presents materials from all participating countries by multimedia means: Videoloops, films, enlarged images, photo-stories, installations etc. It is centred around the Treasure Chest and original Messages. This exhibition addresses a general audience. It invites visitors to share the dialogue among generations and cultures.
  9. The national Chest is closed in a public ceremony. Prominent personalities are attending the celebration. The Chest is kept in a museum until 2050. It becomes a sustainable object representing cultural identity and the continuity among generations.
The different Chests ‚speak‘ to each other. They are elements of an exceptional global piece of art. International publications, films and documentations show, in a unique ‚language‘, what kids from diverse cultures think worth to be communicated to those of the future. A travelling exhibition goes on international tour.
